Dezeen Showroom: British kitchen brand Inglis Hall has launched its Larder cupboard, a handsome wood cabinet handpicked from obscurity by designer Jay Osgerby for his own country kitchen.
Inglis Hall originally designed the Larder cupboard as a utilitarian piece for its workshop, where a pair of the solid wood cabinets sat unassumingly storing tools.
“[The cabinet was] made to bring absolute order to our tool collection – nothing more, we thought,” said Inglis Hall. “How wrong we were.”
“It was Jay Osgerby who recognised their potential, keen to include them in his new Inglis Hall kitchen – something simple, long absorbed into the fabric of the workshop, suddenly seen anew.”
The company is now making the freestanding larder – which at over two metres tall, has a monolithic quality – available made to order in oak, larch or walnut wood.
The cabinet doors open a full 180 degrees, transforming it from a restrained architectural piece into a high-impact display case when opened.
