Dezeen Showroom: British design brand and Royal Warrant holder Sanderson celebrates King Charles III’s famous private gardens in the Highgrove collection, a specially developed range of fabrics and wallpapers.

The Highgrove collection is named after the 18th-century family residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, whose gardens the king has carefully restored with rare tree and heirloom seeds since moving in in 1981.

Sanderson worked closely with the estate and with the King’s Foundation charity that oversees the gardens to develop the Highgrove collection with designs that spotlight the estate’s flora and fauna.

The company also delved into its own 165-year-old archive for the project, surfacing classic damasks, toiles, tapestries and florals to build a collection that epitomises luxurious country cottage style.

There are 108 wallpapers and fabrics in the collection, ranging from a restrained striped linen to an elaborate toile adapted with details specific to modern-day Highgrove and an abundant, multi-hued floral that suggests a garden in full bloom.

“This collaboration is a designer’s dream,” said Sanderson lead designer Rebecca Craig. “It has been such an honour to work with Highgrove and The King’s Foundation to explore the gardens, learn about the incredible ecosystem, and discover the devotion behind each unique landscape and its meaning.”
