LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A mother with a child who is making threats to officers has prompted a SWAT standoff in La Mesa, authorities said.

Around 1 p.m., authorities received a call for a check up on a one-month-old who was being neglected or abused in the 7500 block of Seton Hall Street, according to Cpt. Katy Lynch with the La Mesa Police Department.

Authorities learned the mother of the baby, who is in a bad mental health crisis, was inside the home with the baby.

Lynch said the mother will not come out of the house and has made threats to officers, causing law enforcement to be seriously concerned for the safety of the infant and mother.

A man of unknown relation was also inside the home for a period of time and recently came out of the house on his own accord, police confirmed.

Residents in the area are being advised to shelter in place.

This is a developing story; please check back for updates.
