CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was hit and killed by a vehicle Wednesday in Chula Vista, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of L Street, the Chula Vista Police Department said in a news release.

When first responders arrived, they pronounced the 77-year-old pedestrian dead at the scene.

Authorities say the driver of a gray 2014 Toyota Corolla, also a 77-year-old man, was traveling eastbound on L Street when he hit the pedestrian that was in lane number one of eastbound traffic.

The driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities do not believe driving under the influence is a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5321.
