Details About Death of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Sister Kelly Lee Curtis Shared

New information has emerged regarding the death of Kelly Lee Curtis.

Two days after Jamie Lee Curtis announced that her sister Kelly had died at the age of 69, the Blaine County coroner’s office of Idaho confirmed to Us Weekly that she died of natural causes. Officials also shared details about her final days, saying she had been in hospice care in the week before her death on May 30.

The coroner’s office added that Kelly is expected to be cremated and that her husband John Marsh had been present when the coroner arrived.

In the wake of her passing, Kelly was remembered fondly by her sister, with Jamie writing on Instagram, “A warm aloha to my older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away this morning. In her home. In nature. At peace.”

“She was my first friend and lifelong confidant,” the Oscar winner added. “She was jaw droppingly beautiful, and a talented actress. She played a mean game of hearts, collected turtles, loved her family, nature, music, thrifting, travel, Facebook, and Pokémon Go. She was proud of her Danish roots and Hungarian Jewish ancestry and was a devoted American patriot.”

In a followup post, the Freaky Friday actress shared several photos of herself and her sister from the night before her wedding to husband Christopher Guest in 1984.

“My sister and I were close as children but also had that sibling competition for divorced parent’s attention and love and we were wildly different and lived apart for many years,” Jamie said, “but she came back to be with me at my wedding and never really left again. She worked for me at one point when she was in between jobs as my as-sister-aunt and became an integral part of my family structure. I miss her today but am buoyed by the knowledge that she is at peace.”

Kelly made her onscreen debut at 2 years old in the 1958 film The Vikings, which starred her parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. After graduating from Skidmore College, she became a member of New York City’s The Actor’s Studio, an organization for theatre professionals.

In her later years, Kelly and her husband moved to Bellevue, Idaho, and according to an obituary shared by Jamie, “established themselves as a creative team with their Liberty Films, making films and documentaries about local artists and musicians and the beautiful nature that surrounded them.”

“Kelly always signed off any message or farewell with a Hungarian blessing, Isten Veled, God is with you,” the obituary continued. “Isten Veled to our sister of the sun and the moon, Kelly. May her memory be a blessing.”
