Inside Pregnant Hailee Steinfeld’s “Gorgeous” Backyard Baby Shower

For the special day, Hailee wore a satin, cream-colored Stella McCartney dress paired with Jen Fisher earrings and her favorite brown boots—and she couldn’t have been more comfortable.

As the Pitch Perfect alum put it, “The minute I put it on, it felt like something I’d wear pregnant or not. The key to dressing when you’re pregnant, I’ve found, is trying to wear what you would normally wear (or as close to it as you can).”

When it came to her hair and makeup, Hailee opted to keep hair down straight and wear some light makeup. After all, she “just wanted it to feel natural and pretty but a little something extra.”

As for the party, Hailee noted that there was “no baby shower theme, per se, but a subtle nursery-rhyme thread was woven throughout the decor”—and this was particularly evident by the nursery books that were scattered “everywhere.”

“Everyone brought a book,” she explained, “so this baby is building quite the little library.”

There was also plenty of gingham present at the shower—a pattern Hailee said she was “obsessed” with—from the furniture fabric to the tablecloths and ribbons. 

And while the entire day was memorable, the “Love Myself” singer made sure to highlight a few standout details, including the remarkable food and knitting station organized by her mom.

“For lunch, we had simple sandwiches and salads,” she shared. “There were appetizers passed around at the beginning; the standouts were these little grilled cheeses with jam—they were insane. Of course, there was also a big bowl of shrimp.”

With the knitting station, Hailee explained, “Everyone was able to knit a square—they’re all being sewn together for a baby blanket as we speak!”

But the station was even more meaningful as it reminded Hailee of her beginnings in acting with her mom by her side.

“It’s a very full circle moment for me because my mom took up knitting when I made my first movie,” she shared. “She was sitting in a trailer all day and needed something to do. It was Sudoku or knitting, and she chose the latter. Our family would joke that she was going to knit the red carpet because she didn’t stop.”

“She taught me how to knit way back when,” Hailee continued. “I can’t really cast on or off, but I was able to knit a square to put on this baby’s blanket. I feel like I reopened a fun hobby.”

Now that their baby has been properly celebrated, Hailee and Josh will patiently be waiting for their little one’s arrival. Until then, take a look back at their sweet love story.
