The rock music world is suddenly a little less electric.
Brad Arnold, who served as the lead singer of 3 Doors Down from its inception in 1996, died Feb. 7, the band announced in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). He was 47.
“With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side,” the statement read, “he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.”
The band—which also includes Justin Biltonen, Chris Henderson, Chet Roberts and Greg Upchurch—went on to highlight Arnold’s career achievements and influence across the music industry.
“As a founding member, vocalist and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music,” they continued. “His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.”
And in addition to Arnold’s professional legacy, he also made a significant impact on his loved ones.
“Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith and deep love for his family and friends,” the message concluded. “He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”

Arnold offered insight into his health journey in May, when he shared with fans that he was battling a form of kidney cancer.
“I’d been sick a couple of weeks ago and I went to the hospital and got checked out,” he shared in a video posted on 3 Doors Down’s Instagram at the time. “[I] got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized into my lungs. It’s stage four, and that’s not real good.”
But despite his diagnosis, Arnold clung firmly to his faith as he battled the disease.
“We serve a mighty God and He can overcome anything,” he continued. “So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.”
