The rock music world is suddenly a little less electric.

Brad Arnold, who served as the lead singer of 3 Doors Down from its inception in 1996, died Feb. 7, the band announced in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). He was 47.

ā€œWith his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side,ā€ the statement read, ā€œhe passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.ā€

The band—which also includes Justin Biltonen, Chris Henderson, Chet Roberts and Greg Upchurch—went on to highlight Arnold’s career achievements and influence across the music industry.

ā€œAs a founding member, vocalist and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music,ā€ they continued. ā€œHis music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.ā€

And in addition to Arnold’s professional legacy, he also made a significant impact on his loved ones.

ā€œThose closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith and deep love for his family and friends,ā€ the message concluded. ā€œHe will be deeply missed and forever remembered.ā€

Arnold offered insight into his health journey in May, when he shared with fans that he was battling a form of kidney cancer.

ā€œI’d been sick a couple of weeks ago and I went to the hospital and got checked out,ā€ he shared in a video posted on 3 Doors Down’s Instagram at the time. ā€œ[I] got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had metastasized into my lungs. It’s stage four, and that’s not real good.ā€

But despite his diagnosis, Arnold clung firmly to his faith as he battled the disease.

ā€œWe serve a mighty God and He can overcome anything,ā€ he continued. ā€œSo I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all.ā€
