General Hospital is paying tribute to cast member Anthony Geary less than one month after his death.

On the Thursday, January 1, episode of ABC’s soap opera, viewers were treated to a special encore of Geary’s final episode as Luke Spencer. The episode originally aired on July 27, 2015, and marked the end of Geary’s nearly four-decade run with Port Charles and the show.

“Loved today’s show!!!!❤️❤️ Thanks, GH,” one fan wrote via Instagram after the show aired. Another added, “I was crying at the end. I normally don’t watch when they put an encore episode on but this was special.”

“Geary first joined General Hospital in 1978 after catching the attention of the show’s executive producer, Gloria Monty. While he briefly played Bill Eckert, the actor primarily took on the role of Luke Spencer until he retired in 2015.

Last month, Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed the news of the soap opera star’s death. He was 78.

“It was a shock for me and our families and our friends,” Gama shared in a statement to TV Insider on December 15, 2025. “For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”

According to the publication, Geary’s death was the result of complications from a scheduled operation days earlier.

After Geary’s death was confirmed, many costars paid tribute and shared fond memories working with the actor.

“I was only 19 years old on my first job, General Hospital, and Tony could not have been kinder or more welcoming. At that age, everything feels big. He made it feel safe,” John Stamos wrote via Instagram. “He changed the face of daytime television. And in very real ways, he changed my life.”

Finola Hughes — who played many characters on General Hospital, including Anna Devane, Dr. Liesl Obrecht and Alex Devane — also honored her costar and friend online.

“Tony. The original. He took my breath away, so magical, creative, fearless,” she wrote via Instagram on December 16, 2025. “The thing of legend. So glad I spent time with you and Claudio in Amsterdam for a couple of summers. The best host, conversationalist, deep thinker, witty, kind raconteur. … Thank you Tony for the really, really good times, for sharing your heart and spirit.”

Away from the small screen, Geary appeared to be living a quiet life in Amsterdam with his husband.

In February 2025, Gama confirmed that he had been married to Geary for six years and together for 30 years.

When breaking his silence on Geary’s death, Gama said his late husband is now “resting up where the stars shine bright.”

“He will always be missed. His love, his life, his art speaks for itself. Me, Max and the family would like to thank all of Tony’s friends and colleagues for the wonderful support and respect you have shown,” he wrote via Instagram on December 22, 2025. “To all of Tony’s fans, thank you so much for the wonderful words of support and condolences. He always told me everything he did as an actor, as an artist was for his fans. Without your love and support, he would have never reached the heights he did in his career.”
