Josh Hartnett has been hospitalized following a car crash with a police vehicle in Canada.

According to CBC News, Hartnett, 47, was a passenger in an SUV that was involved in a collision with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle in St. Johns, Canada on Thursday, September 25.

The RNC released a press release that same day stating that the accident took place around 1 a.m. local time.

There was “significant damage to both of the vehicles,” per the release, and the passenger and driver of the SUV were sent to the hospital with “minor injuries.” The officer also went to hospital as a precaution.

The RNC asked if there were any witnesses present or if anyone had video footage of the incident to contact them.

A representative for Hartnett confirmed to Us Weekly that the actor was looked at and released from the hospital and returned to work.

Hartnett is in Canada filming a new series for Netflix. According to IMDB, the project is known at the moment as an Untitled Netflix Newfoundland Series. According to its official synopsis, the show will follow a fisherman who fights to protect his family and community after a sea creature terrorizes a remote town.

In addition to Hartnett, the cast includes Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton and Speak No Evil alum Mackenzie Davis.

Hartnett is best known for being a teen heartthrob in the late ‘90s. He also had roles in several critically acclaimed films, including Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down and more.

After becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood at a young age, Hartnett decided to step away from the spotlight and opted for a quieter life.

“People’s attention to me at the time was borderline unhealthy. I just didn’t want my life to be swallowed up by my work,” he told The Guardian in July 2024. “There was a notion at that time you just kind of give it all up. And you saw what happened to some people back then. They got obliterated by it. I didn’t want that for myself.”

After a massive break from acting, Hartnett made his triumphant return to the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s 2023 star-studded film Oppenheimer. Hartnett has continued to take on projects and has since starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap and Fight or Flight. He’s also slated to star in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel Verity alongside Anne Hathaway.

Earlier this year, Hartnett exclusively opened up to Us about what kind of roles he’s looking for in the future.

“Is it unique? Is it something I haven’t done before? Can I be surprising? Is it surprising to me? Would it be interesting for me to be a part of because it’s new? And then, will it be interesting to an audience to see me do it? Can I pull it off? That’s another part of it,” he reflected. “[With Fight or Flight], I was like, “Can I still do this? I wanna see if I can.” And then once I commit to something, I really make sure that I can do it. I don’t want to mess with anybody and I want to make sure that when you go have the experience of watching a film that I’m in, you’re being completely entertained.”
