OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Oceanside Fire Department extinguished a house fire early Saturday morning, safely removing the resident from the home along with their 10 pets, according to the department.

Authorities said at around 4:20 a.m. on Aug. 30, the fire department responded to reports of black smoke coming from a second-story window in the 1100 block of Tee Street, near Vandegrift Boulevard in Oceanside.

When the fire units arrived at the home, they discovered an active fire blazing from a second-story bedroom window and began searching the residence and extinguishing the flames, according to authorities.

As firefighters worked to put out the flames, they reportedly found several pets inside and outside the home. With the help of neighbors, they safely sheltered all the pets.

According to the report, a total of 10 animals were saved from the fire, including four dogs and six cats. The resident reportedly sustained smoke inhalation and minor burns and was treated on the scene by paramedics.

The fire was contained within 10 minutes, with the only damage occurring in the second-story bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to authorities.

The American Red Cross was able to provide shelter and assistance to both the resident and their pets.
