SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Congressman Scott Peters sent a message to Congress and president Donald Trump Wednesday morning, that he supports Afghan wartime allies and the Enduring Welcome Act.

In a press conference on board the USS Midway Museum, Peters said the U.S. government has turned its back on Afghan allies.

Many served as interpreters during the war and many helped American troops stay safe from the Taliban. Now, he says they deserve asylum and protection like other war time allies in the past.

Since 2021, organizations including AfghanEvac, have helped resettle about 200,000 eligible Afghan allies, but Peters says about 60,000 are still in Afghanistan and another 170,000 are waiting for special immigration visas.
