A man was fatally stabbed at a bus station in Escondido Saturday morning and police have detained a person of interest.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man was fatally stabbed at a bus station in Escondido Saturday morning, and police have detained a person of interest.

Police officers responded to the Escondido Transit Center in the 700 block of W Valley Parkway in Escondido just after 8 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a person screaming for help, the Escondido Police Department reports.

Officers arrived at the scene in less than five minutes and began first aid on the man who was on the ground bleeding. Escondido Fire paramedics took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

The Escondido Police Department reports a person of interest has been detained. No additional information was released on the suspect or motive.

The fatal stabbing is under investigation, and officers were working on Saturday to collect blood and clothing evidence from the scene.
