Diane Keaton’s Daughter Shares What She Misses Most in Sweet Mother’s Day Message

Diane Keaton’s daughter is continuing to grieve the heartbreaking loss of her mom.

On the first anniversary of the Oscar winner’s death, Dexter Keaton White honored Diane with an emotional tribute, sharing what she misses most.

“One year without you, mom,” Dexter wrote in an Oct. 10 Instagram post alongside a throwback black-and-white photo with the Annie Hall actress. “It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once.”

And because of this, the 30-year-old is struggling to navigate the fact that her mom is no longer here.

“I’m still trying to get used to a world where I can’t call you,” she wrote, “have you there for a hug, or go on adventures with you.”

Dexter added, “It’s the everyday moments that remind me just how much I wish you were still here.”

She ended her heartfelt message by emphasizing she’ll hold her mom close forever, writing, “I love you and I miss you. Always.”

Alongside her tribute, Dexter—whom Diane adopted in 1996—looked back at a sweet memory, sharing a mother-daughter photo from her wedding to Jordan White in 2021.

In the candid shot, Dexter stunned in a white wedding dress, while Diane wore her signature hat, sunglasses and pantsuit as the pair smiled and looked into each other’s eyes.

Her latest tribute comes exactly a year after Diane died at age 79 following a battle with pneumonia.

In the time since, Dexter has continued to honor the Book Club actress, including paying tribute to Diane on the first Mother’s Day after her death.

“First Mother’s Day without you,” she wrote in a May 10 Instagram post. “I miss you more than words can say. Missing her voice, her hugs, her presence, and everything that made her home.”

And while Diane—who adopted son Duke in 2001—became a mom later in life, she regularly praised her decision to be a single mother.

“Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist,” she recalled to the the Ladies’ Home Journal in 2008. “It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.”
