This week on Dezeen, we considered how the architecture of data centres is changing in the face of rapid development of hyperscale facilities.

As AI drives the demand for data centres, vast facilities are being built across the US, prompting people to question the impact on local environments.

With the increasing public discussion over data centre development in the US, we asked how the architecture of data centres could be improved.

“Data centers are, in general, an example of poor design,” Spanish academic Marina Otero Verzier, who won the 2022 Wheelwright Prize for her theories on data centres, told Dezeen.

RIBA settled a legal case with Alan Jones

In the UK, it was revealed that the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) paid £150,000 to former president Alan Jones to settle a legal dispute.

The payment concluded a long-running dispute between Jones and RIBA over the organisation’s handling of personal information and allegations about Jones being leaked to the press in 2020.

In Vietnam, we revealed the design for a 70,000-seat national stadium that is set to be built on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.

Designed by architecture studio Populous, the Rach Chiec Stadium will be almost double the size of any existing stadium in the country.
