Business travel requires a particular kind of wardrobe intelligence. You must look professional enough for meetings, comfortable enough for airports, and organised enough that you do not spend your first morning ironing a shirt with a hotel hair dryer.
Begin with a simple colour story. Navy, black, grey, beige, and white are dependable because they can be combined without creating an international diplomatic incident inside your suitcase. Bring one or two well-cut jackets, several breathable shirts, tailored trousers, and comfortable shoes that still look appropriate in a meeting.
Every item should perform more than one job. A lightweight blazer should work with formal trousers during the day and with a fine-knit shirt for dinner. A crisp white shirt should survive presentations, interviews, and the possibility of being photographed beside someone important.
Wrinkle-resistant fabrics are useful, but do not confuse wrinkle-resistant with indestructible. Even the finest fabric may surrender after being compressed between a laptop charger and three unnecessary pairs of shoes.
The destination also matters. A business trip to Singapore requires lighter fabrics than a winter meeting in Prague. A creative conference in Berlin may allow more individuality, while a banking meeting in London may quietly prefer that your personality remain inside your briefcase.
Always carry one complete business outfit in your hand luggage. Checked baggage sometimes chooses a different destination. Your meeting, unfortunately, usually does not.
