Dezeen Showroom: three-dimensional, clay-coloured linear details emerge from the coloured glazes of the Terramater tiles, created by Italian manufacturer Marazzi as an ode to vintage ceramics.
The Terramater collection is made with special glazes that blend with the porcelain stoneware tiles’ red body during firing, creating richly textured surfaces.
The tiles are available in a choice of seven colours, including deeply pigmented hues such as blue Laguna and earth-red Cotto, and two surface patterns: Ritmo or Losanga.
Ritmo features a pattern of irregular parallel lines giving a dynamic effect, while Losanga brings in a classic lozenge-shaped motif.
Marazzi says the tile design hearkens back to 1970s ceramics with its embrace of the reaction between glazes and natural oxides, and that the choice of small-to-medium-sized rectangular and square formats reinforces this connection.
Frost-proof and resistant to deep abrasion, the Terramater tile is part of Marazzi’s Crogiolo series of artisan-inspired designs and is suitable for both walls and floors.
