Security Council LIVE: Deadly gang attacks spike in Haiti

Following a deadly spate of gang attacks on civilians in Haiti and amid reports of illicit weapons slipping into the Caribbean country, the Security Council has called an emergency meeting at 3pm (local time) to hear and discuss the latest developments. On 23 August, gangs killed at least 47 people, injured 22 others and kidnapped more than 52 people in Kenscoff, near the capital, Port-au-Prince
1,408 people have been killed and 656 injured in the context of gang-related violence and 326 people had been subjected to sexual violence between 1 April and 30 June, according to the latest report of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH)
Illicit flows of firearms and ammunition into Haiti continued to bolster and empower armed gangs, according to the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR)
