The US Department of Transportation announced the plan in partnership with The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and United Airlines, after dozens of architecture studios submitted proposals to an RFI from the government last year.

Commenters are unsure about the proposal, with one calling it “shameless”, referring to President’s signature choice of gold on the interior. Another discouraged reader wrote, “the cultural vandalism knows no bounds”.
