Snooki Tearfully Details Hysterectomy After Cervical Cancer Diagnosis

As the reality star—who shared her stage one cervical cancer diagnosis in February—was being wheeled into surgery, she admitted that she was feeling “literally terrified” as the implications of the procedure hit her. 

“I was starting to get nervous and anxious, getting checked in and stuff, and then they wheel me in where they’re doing the procedure,” Snooki recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Stay positive, it’s gonna be fine, don’t freak yourself out.’ My heart’s starting to race, I’m getting anxiety, and I’m getting the shakes.”

In addition to removing her uterus and cervix, which is commonly performed during a hysterectomy, per Cleveland Clinic, the Jersey Show Family Vacation star shared the surgeon also took out her fallopian tubes and “some parts of my vagina just to make sure we get everything,” but “kept my ovaries so I don’t go into pre-menopause.”

In addition to her hysterectomy, the mom of three shared that the surgeon also corrected another condition during the procedure.

“I’ve had three kids,” she explained. “Sometimes your abs, they disconnect. I don’t have like a six-pack. You don’t see it, but everyone has it. So he ended up putting them back together.”

Snooki was seemingly referring to diastasis recti, a condition in which abdominal muscles can separate, most commonly during or after pregnancy, per the Cleveland Clinic.

And while she’s struggling to “deal with all that pain,” the MTV star noted that she’s “trying to stay optimistic,” adding that she was able to walk “a little bit,” but it “hurt so bad.”

Although her road to recovery won’t be easy, Snooki emphasized that she will continue to be “vulnerable” with fans because it’s a “scary thing” that “a lot of us women deal with.”

“I don’t have to take birth control anymore. Hopefully, I’ll be cancer free,” she continued. “I love you. Thanks for being here. And get your Pap smears, OK?”
