South Africa’s World Cup Player Jayden Adams Dead at 25
Jayden Adams‘ partner is grieving the loss of her best friend.
Following the news of the South African soccer star’s death at age 25, his longtime partner Aqueelah Adendorf shared a heartbreaking tribute on social media.
“There are no words to describe the pain I’m feeling,” she wrote in a July 11 Instagram post alongside photos of herself and Adams. “Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not only the love of my life but also my greatest supporter and my best friend.”
Adendorf, who shared a 5-year-old daughter with Adams, continued, “A part of my heart left with you, and I will carry your love with me forever.”
“Until we meet again, I’ll miss you every single day,” she added. “Rest easy, my angel. I love you always and forever.”
Hours earlier, South Africa’s minister of sports, arts and culture Gayton McKenzie announced Adams’ sudden death. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder played for South Africa’s men’s national soccer team (affectionately known as Bafana Bafana) at the 2026 World Cup just two weeks prior.
“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams,” McKenzie said in a July 11 statement. “South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents, and our nation mourns alongside his family, his team-mates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international.”
He noted that the “cause of Jayden’s passing has not yet been confirmed” and urged the media and soccer fans to “refrain from speculation” amid the investigation.
Adams hit the field in all three of South Africa’s group matches at the 2026 World Cup, including the team’s 2-0 loss to Mexico, its 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic in Group A and 1-0 win over South Korea.

Last month, Adendorf showed her support for Adams prior to his appearance at the World Cup in a lengthy tribute on social media.
“Watching you achieve something this big has filled my heart with so much pride,” she shared in a May 27 Instagram post. “From the hard work, sacrifices, early mornings, disappointments, and moments nobody saw—you kept going, stayed disciplined, and trusted God through it all. And now look at you… representing your country on the national team.”
Adendorf went on to call Adam “inspiring” and praised him for not giving up on his dream while facing challenges.
“No matter how far this journey takes you, just know I’ll always be your biggest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and safest place,” she continued. “This is only the beginning for you, my love. May God continue to guide your steps, protect you, and open even bigger doors for your future. Keep shining, keep believing, and keep making us proud. Your hard work is finally paying off and I know there’s still so much more greatness waiting for you.”
