Music lovers will get the chance to experience the magic of the music of George Canseco in a one-night only concert that will be held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater on June 13, 2026.
Titled Ngayon at Kailanman, The Music of George Canseco, the show is directed by Frank Mamaril with Louie Ocampo as musical director, and will feature a line-up of artists that includes the foremost interpreters of Canseco songs plus young singers eager to perform the works of the famous composer.
Leading the list of performers is Basil Valdez, the former Circus Band soloist who built his career on Canseco compositions like Ngayon at Kailanman, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan, Paano Bang Mangarap, Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan, Kastilyong Buhangin, Muling Buksan ang Puso, Salamin ng Buhay, Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan, Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo, Ngayon and many others.
Also set to perform will be Kuh Ledesma who debuted as a solo artist with Canseco’s Dito Ba and went on to more hits like Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan, Bulaklak and Ako ay Pilipino.
Other Canseco artists joining the concert will be Dulce with Ako ang Nasawi, Ako ang Nagwagi; Leah Navarro with Kailangan Kita and Anthony Castelo with Kaibigan. Earning the privilege of singing Canseco classics in the show will be Jona, Rita Daniela and Mark Bautista.
Born in Cavite on April 23, 1934 in Naic, Cavite, Canseco was an editor at the Associated Press when he started writing songs. Although he had no formal training in music he was able to craft beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics.
His breakthrough came about when Pilita Corrales recorded his composition Kapantay ay Langit for her landmark Philippine Love Songs album. The song became a major hit and marked the beginning of Canseco’s success not only as a songwriter but also as a musical director for film and television. He passed away on November 19, 2004.
