4.8-magnitude quake jolts Eastern Samar thumbnail

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake was reported in Eastern Samar, with intensities felt in 10 areas, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Wednesday.

The earthquake occurred at 6:58 a.m., with its epicenter located offshore, 21 kilometers north of San Policarpo, Eastern Samar, PHIVOLCS said in a report.

It was of tectonic origin and had a focal depth of 12 kilometers.

Intensity III was reported in Can-avid, Arteche, Dolores, Oras, San Julian, Taft, and Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

It was likewise felt in Lapinig, Gamay, Pambujan, Palapag, Laoang, Mondaragon, and Mapanas in Northern Samar.

Intensity II was reported in Maydolong, Hernani, and Llorente in Eastern Samar, as well as in Bobon and Catarman, Northern Samar.

It was also felt in San Jorge, Gandara, and Catbalogan City in Samar.

As for instrumental intensities, PHIVOLCS said Intensity III was reported in Can-avid, Eastern Samar, and Palapag, Northern Samar.

Intensity II was recorded in Gandara, Samar, while Intensity I was reported in Abuyog, Alangalang, Carigara, and Dulag, Leyte.
