Celebrity Deaths: 2025’s Fallen Stars

Buzz Aldrin is mourning a tragic loss.

The astronaut’s wife Dr. Anca Faur Aldrin died on Oct. 28, two years after the couple tied the knot, Buzz and her family shared in a joint message on social media. She was 66.

“Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side,” read the statement posted to Facebook Oct. 29. “Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.”

And Buzz, 95, paid tribute to his wife in a separate message as well, saying, “I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life.”

“She brought joy to everything we did together,” he continued. “I will miss her dearly.”

The statement added, “Her family requests privacy in their time of mourning.”

Buzz was previously married to Joan Archer from 1954 to 1974, Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978 and Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012. He met Anca in 2017 at a work event before going public with their romance the following year.

In 2023, the couple got married during a small ceremony on Buzz’s 93rd birthday.

“It was a beautiful day,” Buzz told People in 2024 of the nuptials. “We had decided on a private ceremony, as suitably intimate, just us and the stars in the sky.”

And the space legend—who became the second person ever to walk on the moon in 1969—also provided insight into why he wanted to walk down the aisle with Anca, who he described as “the whole Wizard of Oz package.” As he put it, the engineer had “brains, heart [and] courage.”

Indeed, Anca was extremely accomplished in the field of science. In addition to her work for the California Hydrogen Business Council and Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC, she spent nearly 20 years at Johnson Matthey, a chemicals and sustainable technologies institution based in London, according to her LinkedIn

“There is something special about her and the way we connect so well,” Buzz told People in 2024. “We do everything together, from eating meals, planning projects and watching the world go by.”
