PACIFIC BEACH (FOX 5/KUSI) — The man accused of stabbing three security guards outside a popular Pacific Beach bar appeared in court Wednesday, as prosecutors revealed new details about the violent attack that left one victim seriously injured.

Dylan Chase, 24, pleaded not guilty to several charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the Sunday morning attack outside Mavericks Beach Club. Prosecutors said Chase, who appeared intoxicated, was removed from the bar around 12:10 a.m., then returned with an eight-inch hunting knife and stabbed three security guards.

One of the victims, Francisco “Franny” Garcia, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Prosecutors said the injuries to the victims include a ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung and perforated bowels.

“Due to the severe nature of the injuries … and the viciousness of the attack, we believe the defendant is an ongoing threat to the community,” Deputy District Attorney Lauren Wade told the court.

Judge Euketa Oliver set bail at $200,000, calling Chase a risk to society. Prosecutors also said a co-defendant was involved in the attack, though Chase faces the most serious charges.

Court documents show Chase recently moved to San Diego from Kansas, where prosecutors say he has a violent criminal history. He had been staying at a sober living home before the incident.

Residents in Pacific Beach say the stabbing has amplified concerns about safety in the coastal community.

“I know PB has changed quite a bit over the last few years,” said local resident Amy, who declined to give her last name.

“It’s just a bummer — I feel like a lot of things keep happening,” said another neighbor, Kalie Slivkoff, who lives near Mavericks. “You can definitely feel some tension when you’re walking around.”

Chase is due back in court on Oct. 30.
