A total of 3,899 families or 14,390 individuals are affected by the onslaught of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) in San Mateo.

In Cainta, Rizal, 842 families or 3,440 persons were affected while in Taytay, a total of 858 families or 3,696 persons were displaced due to rains and floods.

All evacuation centers remain under close monitoring and are being assisted by the local government and concerned national agencies.

Food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development were being distributed to the residents.

Cainta, Rodriguez and San Mateo were placed under state of calamity due to the impacts of bad weather.

Situational briefing

After his inspection, Marcos proceeded to the Office of Civil Defense to preside over a situational briefing on the impact and government response to the inclement weather.

Speaking to reporters, Marcos said he wants to ensure that there are medical teams in evacuation centers as he noticed that the facilities are congested. He pointed out that with this kind of situation, illness could rapidly spread.

“The other thing that I was concerned about noong nakita ko sa evacuation center, napaka-congested, ‘yung sakit. Isa lang dyan ang magkasakit, kakalat nang napakabilis ‘yan,” Marcos said.

(The other thing that I was concerned about is that when I saw the evacuation center, it’s very congested. If one will get sick, it will immediately spread.)

”And so we are making sure that every evacuation center, it has a medical team composed of national government doctors and nurses, and also local government nurses and doctors,” he added. — VAL/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
