(FOX 5/KUSI) — On the eve of hosting their first Training Camp in the city of San Diego in nearly a decade, the Chargers paid a visit to North Island in Coronado and the USS Abraham Lincoln.

“An incredible experience to be here to be on the most iconic of carriers,” said Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

“It’s amazing,” continued Chargers Safety Derwin James, “For them to have us out here, to have this opportunity, we’re just so thankful. A lot of respect for every man and woman on this ship. We’re excited to be here.”

Nearly 100 members of the Navy, along with their families, watched the Chargers have a quick walk-through on the deck before signing autographs and touring the ship.

“First of all, it’s a beautiful place to be,” continued Chargers Linebacker Daiyan Henley. “San Diego is a beautiful city, but just to be on this platform here. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.”

The tour also saw the return of Chargers owner Dean Spanos.

For more than 30 years, the Chargers have partnered with the military. In 2024, the team hosted a practice at Camp Pendleton. You can read about that practice at this link.

The Chargers open their season against the Chiefs on September 5th.
