SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — National City Police homicide detectives are working to determine what happened after a man was found dead with injuries to his chest early Saturday morning on a sidewalk underneath Interstate 5.

Officers were called to the 400 block of West 8th Street under I-5 in National City around 5:47 a.m. Saturday for reports of a unresponsive man, the National City Police Department reports.

When police arrived, officers found a man dead on the sidewalk with a wound to his chest, National City Police report. No other information about his injuries were immediately given by police. He has not yet been identified by authorities.

National City Police detectives took over the homicide investigation. Police said no suspects have been identified as the investigation continues.
