SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A seal that far outlived her life expectancy died at nearly 50 at SeaWorld San Diego this past week, the park announced.

SeaWorld’s harbor seal, Annie, died at the age of 47, the park announced Friday, and said that Annie was with the park for nearly five decades. The life expectancy for harbor seals is around 25-30 years.

The park said Annie had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that progressed quickly, and that she spent her final days with her mate, Cyclops, and her son, Tomas.

“Annie lived a long, remarkable life, touched countless hearts, and will be deeply missed,” SeaWorld San Diego said in its statement. “Guests knew her best for her sweet wave and her unmistakable eyes, and her caretakers lovingly called her the queen of Sea Lion Point.”

Harbor seals are found in sub-arctic and arctic waters of the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans and can be found in the San Francisco Bay or along the European coast from Finland to Portugal.

SeaWorld’s Sea Lion Point has seals and sea lions for visitors to try to tell apart. The park is located at 500 Sea World Drive in San Diego.
