SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man is recovering from injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy roadway in the Midway District Sunday afternoon, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The collision occurred around 12:20 p.m. in the 3700 block of Camino Del Rio West, where a 69-year-old pedestrian attempted to cross the street midblock amid heavy traffic, police said. As he stepped into the far left lane lane, he was struck by a 2021 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 34-year-old man traveling southbound.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital with significant injuries, including an open fracture to his right leg and a fractured pelvis. Authorities have not released the names of those involved.

Traffic Division investigators responded to the scene and are handling the investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
