SeaWorld San Diego on Tuesday announced the renovation of its Shark Encounter exhibit.

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — SeaWorld San Diego on Tuesday announced the renovation of its Shark Encounter exhibit.

The new experience will allow guests to watch sharks from all angles, whether it is seeing them glide overhead or from an elevated view on a walkway above the shark habitat, the theme park said in a news release.

Guests will be able to learn about the new species of sharks, along with a diverse array of marine animals, through multimedia elements like an overhead video ceiling in the hallway showcasing diverse sharks swimming above and a multi-screen video installation of rare live footage of shark diversity during an eight-minute presentation.

“This is more than a refresh—it’s a reinvention,” said Tyler Carter, SeaWorld San Diego Park President. “The revamped Shark Encounter is designed to engage the senses and imagination like never before, bringing guests closer to sharks in powerful, memorable ways. This revitalization is part of our ongoing investment in the park to create innovative, immersive experiences that also support marine conservation and education.”

There will also be a new surge tank that simulates crashing waves washing into a shallow tide pool to provide an interactive look into their environment.

The renovated exhibit is set to debut in Spring 2026.
