Sharp Grossmont Hospital originally opened Aug. 15, 1955, with just 110 beds in the facility. Since then, it has more than quadrupled its size, housing 562 beds and providing care for more than 500,000 people throughout East County.

Over the last few years, the hospital has unveiled several state-of-the-art facilities, including the Burr Heart and Vascular Center and the Sharp Grossmont Hospital for Neuroscience, which opened last spring.

“It was inspiring to see more than 130 team members unite for this important milestone event at Sharp Grossmont Hospital,” Bruce Hartman, director of marketing and communications, said in a release. “It’s a testament to the spirit of the Sharp Grossmont family, who are proud to call this hospital their home.”

For the past seven decades, Sharp Grossmont has implemented programs that include home infusion, inpatient rehabilitation and several types of emergency medicine for various health conditions.
