Dezeen Showroom: New Zealand-based LyZadie Design Studio has created a series of tables made from reclaimed kauri and rimu wood that reinterpret traditional Māori weaving practices.

LyZadie Design Studio founder Lyzadie Renault collaborated with artist Sheree Willman and furniture maker Dylan McKay to make the Letsweave tables, basing them on Willman’s paintings that translate the Māori tāniko weaving technique as modern, geometric patterns.

Renault sought to bring the paintings to life as objects, creating a number of designs that she eventually worked with McKay, from Bespoke Timber Design, to realise.

“Dylan understood innately the impeccable craft that would be required to create this piece,” said Renault. “What would be coaxed from the timber would tell a story, one that stopped people in their tracks.”

The collection includes coffee tables

“Made of reclaimed rimu and kauri timber, the piece holds history and hope tightly at its heart,” continued Renault.

The Letsweave collection includes round and oblong dining tables, a coffee table and a side table, all made to order in any desired finish.
