SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego FC on Monday added two new 19-year-old players to its roster.
One of the players acquired is midfielder David Vazquez from the Philadelphia Union. He will be on loan with SDFC through 2025 with a permanent trade option from the Union in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2025 and 2026.
The other is midfielder Pedro Soma from Spanish lower-division side UE Cornellà. The 19-year-old US youth international is under contract with SDFC through 2027 with an option for 2028.
In three years with the Union, Vazquez made 57 appearances (51 starts) and tallied 10 goals across all competitions.
“David is a high potential player who fits the way we want to play,” said SDFC Sporting Director Tyler Heaps. “He’s creative in the final third, comfortable between the lines, and shown the ability to create with a final pass or shot. We’re excited to bring him closer to home and provide him with an environment where he can continue to grow.
Soma has played 44 games in professional career, spending last year on loan with Barça B, FC Barcelona’s reserve side.
“We’re excited to welcome Pedro to San Diego,” said sporting director Tyler Heaps. “He’s an intelligent midfielder with a very high level of technical ability and game understanding. He’s excellent in tight spaces, comfortable under pressure, and confident playing through the lines. Defensively, he brings an aggressive edge and a strong counter-pressing mentality.
As SDFC heads into the Leagues Cup break, they lead the Western Conference with 46 points (14W-7L-4D).
