As a millennial, Yeng Constantino has always been part of our music routine. We witnessed her triumphant rise after winning the very first season of Pinoy Dream Academy in 2006, and watched her become one of OPM’s biggest hitmakers with songs like Salamat, Hawak Kamay, Jeepney Love Story, and many more that dominated MYX and radio charts during that era.
Since then, Yeng has become a household name through her music. But despite her countless hits and loyal fanbase, she had never mounted a solo concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. We saw her headline Samsung Hall in 2013 and share the Big Dome stage with Gloc-9 and Rico Blanco in 2014, but a solo arena concert remained the missing milestone in her career…until last weekend.
Twenty years into her music journey, the timing finally felt right.
Biyaheng Bente celebrated Yeng Constantino’s two decades in the music industry, and the demand alone proved how overdue this concert was. Tickets sold out within days, prompting the opening of a second night. Yeng isn’t known for frequently staging major headlining concerts, but with an iconic discography and the unwavering support of Yengsters, the Big Dome was more than deserved.
I got to witness Night 2, and despite severe weather conditions, thousands of fans still trooped to Araneta Coliseum to celebrate this milestone. The concert immediately stood out with its concept: a giant jeepney served as the centerpiece of the stage, while ticket sections were named after Yeng’s biggest hits such as Hawak Kamay Blvd., Salamat Ave., Ikaw St., and more. It was a quirky yet meaningful idea that perfectly represented Yeng’s story: there are many roads and many detours, but every journey can lead to success.
Even before Yeng appeared onstage, the audience turned the venue into one giant choir by singing the minus-one version of Jeepney Love Story. During our post-show interview, Yeng revealed she was already crying backstage after hearing the crowd sing every word.
From the moment she stepped onto the stage, Yeng unleashed her Pop Rock Royalty. Opening with Time In, Pangarap Lang, Jeepney Love Story, Cool Off, and Lapit, she instantly transported the audience back to the late 2000s. It was pure nostalgia. it felt like being transported back to my high school days, listening to these songs on the radio and watching them dominate MYX.
The guest performances added even more heart to the evening. Pinoy Dream Academy batchmate RJ Jimenez joined Yeng for If We Fall in Love, bringing back memories of their love team from 20 years ago. RJ even apologized for losing communication after their PDA journey, making the reunion feel like a genuine full-circle moment.
Yeng also shared the stage with her Cornerstone family: Kyla for At Ang Hirap and Sam Milby for Paano Ba ang Magmahal, giving fans memorable collaborations that blended nostalgia and heartfelt performances.
One of the night’s biggest highlights came during the Sabihin Mo Na segment. It’s no secret, especially after Yeng shared the story on It’s Showtime that she once had a huge crush on Ryan Bang and even got “seen-zoned.” With Vice Ganda and Ryan Bang both in attendance, Ryan was suddenly thrust into the spotlight as Yeng serenaded him in front of the entire Big Dome, sending the crowd into hysterics and making it one of the most unforgettable moments of the concert.
During Ako Muna, Yeng surprised fans by riding a swing toward the B-stage, creating a more intimate moment with Yengsters seated farther from the main stage.
OPM legend Ogie Alcasid joined Yeng for a beautiful rendition of Nandito Ako and congratulated her on both the concert’s success and her remarkable career. The celebration continued as today’s rising pop artists Janine Berdin, MRLD, and Angela Ken shared the stage with her. Rather than simply featuring guests, Yeng gave them space to perform their own songs, a generous gesture that recognized the next generation of OPM stars.
The Chinito segment was one of the concert’s most entertaining highlights. While Night 1 featured the song’s original leading man Enchong Dee, Night 2 brought comedian Empoy Marquez, whose comedic chemistry with Yeng made the performance even more fun and feel-good.
The emotional peak arrived during Ikaw. Yeng shared that she wrote the song for her husband, and it has since become one of the country’s most beloved wedding songs. She also opened up about living with persistent depressive disorder and how her husband has been her source of strength. Walking down from the stage to sing directly to him turned the performance into one of the sweetest and most heartfelt moments of the night.
Then came Hawak Kamay, a song dedicated to everyone carrying silent battles while continuing to fight each day for themselves and their families. Accompanied by a choir and standing atop a makeshift bridge, Yeng delivered a performance filled with hope and comfort. The Big Dome fell into complete silence. It was one of those rare concert moments where the crowd simply paused and took everything in.
The concert ended exactly where it all began: Salamat, the song that won her Pinoy Dream Academy. It became Yeng’s heartfelt thank you to God, to her family, and to the fans who stayed with her through every chapter of her career. The entire Big Dome sang at the top of their lungs, creating one of the loudest and most emotional sing-alongs I’ve ever witnessed inside Araneta Coliseum. It was bittersweet, powerful, and deeply moving.
Beyond Yeng’s incredible catalog and effortless stage presence, John Prats deserves praise for directing one of the year’s strongest concert productions. Having watched many of Direk John’s shows over the years, Biyaheng Bente feels like one of his best works yet. Immersive, visually engaging, and emotionally paced from start to finish.
For me, the true measure of a great concert is what happens after it ends. Biyaheng Bente gave me that post-concert feeling where I found myself revisiting Yeng Constantino’s songs days later. That’s the magic of this show: even casual listeners will probably hit play on her greatest hits all over again.
Biyaheng Bente continues its journey at SM Seaside Arena in Cebu on September 20, followed by a North American tour and a Laguna stop in December. And if there’s one takeaway after witnessing Night 2, it’s this: Yeng Constantino deserves another arena concert in Manila, because this is a show that more people deserve to experience.
