Dezeen Showroom: US studio Lawson Fenning looked to Japan’s 1960s Metabolism design movement when designing this seating range, which features a low, grounded sofa and chairs.

Bosque started with this idea of furniture as built form – pieces that feel grounded, almost architectural, but still really liveable,” said Lawson Fenning co-founder and chief design officer Grant Fenning.

The Bosque collection features broad, low seating designs

“We kept coming back to the Japanese Metabolists and how they thought about structure as something both expressive and human,” he continued.

The designer-maker duo sought to embed those principles on a more compact scale, creating a sofa, lounge chair and swivel chair that are intended to look more like part of the architecture of the space rather than objects within it.

The post-war Metabolism design movement was an influence

“We were drawn to the clarity of the Metabolist movement, but we didn’t want it to feel rigid,” said co-founder and chief creative officer Glenn Lawson.

“The goal was to take that sense of intention and permanence and soften it into something you actually want to live with every day.”

The Bosque seating range is manufactured entirely in the US. The pieces are available in a choice of oak or walnut finishes with fabric or leather upholstery.
