MINNEAPOLIS – Target is handing fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi a broad portfolio as the retailer moves to re-establish itself as a design authority and beacon of cultural relevance.

As the first creative director at large in Target’s history, Mizrahi will serve as an advisor to Target’s internal design organization, mentor in-house designers and shepherd new design partnerships into the assortment.

“Great design is deeply human – it ignites confidence and joy, and it’s what guests tell us they love about shopping at Target,” said Cara Sylvester, EVP and chief merchandising officer, Target.  “Isaac has always believed, as we do, that great design should be accessible to everyone.”

Mizarhi will work alongside Gena Fox, the retailer’s SVP of design, as a creative advisor. In that role, he will consult on new product concepts, design innovation and emerging trends. He will also work with the team on brand storytelling, design collaborations and purpose-driven partnerships, including on the local level.

As a mentor, he will conduct one-on-one sessions with Target designers and create immersion experiences, inspiration trips and design workshops.

Target, said Mizrahi, “is poised to be the design authority in a way only Target can.”

He added, “My role is to collaborate with its incredible team to bring more joy, style and sophistication to design through storytelling, creativity and a shopping experience that feels even more fun.”

The designer and the retailer have a history. In 2024, Mizrahi partnered with Target on a branded apparel collection, which expanded the following  year into a multi-category home collection called  “Isaac in the House.”
