Riley Keough Cleverly Evades Cannes Dress Code Rule in Sheer Look on Red Carpet
Riley Keough will have you all shook up with this look.
The Daisy Jones & the Six actress found a way to circumvent the dress code at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival that prohibits fully see-through dresses and nudity by donning an outfit that gently toed the sheer-line at the May 14 screening of Parallel Tales.
Riley opted for a dress from Chanel’s spring collection featuring a fully sheer blush blazer and matching skirt with beading along the edges. She paired the look with Chanel heels and simple jewelry. And ensure she followed the film festival’s rules, the 36-year-old wore a beige bra and short set underneath.Â
Cannes first implemented their dress code rules in 2025, explaining the frequently asked question section of their website, “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival.”
But it’s not just nudity that’s banned, as the festival also has said no to large gowns.
“Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted,” the policy stated. “The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
As Cannes explained to The Hollywood Reporter when they first set the dress code, the objective is “not to regulate attire per se but to prohibit full nudity on the carpet” in accordance with the festival’s framework and French law.

And while Riley found a way to make sheer outfit work for this year’s film festival, Halle Berry had to do a complete 180 for her look at the 2025 opening ceremony.
“I had an amazing dress by [designer Gurav Gupta] that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” she told Variety at a news conference in May of last year. “I’m not going to break the rules.”
Instead, the Oscar winner wore a black and white striped trapeze gown by Jacquemus, explaining, “I had to make a pivot.”
As for the ban on nudity? Halle could see the benefit of that one, adding that it’s “probably also a good rule.”
