Dezeen Showroom: designer Joan Gaspar and Spanish brand Marset created this ice block-like light from a material that the company describes as “astonishing”.

The Ringo light is made from transparent polycarbonate that is rotomoulded so it develops a dimpled texture similar to blown glass.

Marset describes the light – which is available as a pendant or ceiling lamp – as one that accentuates material rather than form, bringing new life to a simple geometric shape through its unexpected surface and scale.

The Ringo light is intended primarily for large contract spaces with high ceilings that require a lot of light, such as hotel lobbies.

It is lightweight but looks like a hefty block of ice or glass

Marset says that its transparency allows it to blend in and harmonise with spaces while serving as a sculptural object with a strong presence when the light is switched off.

Ringo is available in two sizes: 90 or 70 centimetres in diameter. It can be flush mounted, hung from a cable or fixed to a rigid stem, which can be extended using height extension poles of 40 or 60 centimetres.
