‘Queer Eye’ Star Tan France Responds to Rumors He Got Bobby Berk Fired
Tan France has set his sights on a new hair color.
The Queer Eye star—who’s been rocking silvery gray hair for much of his career as a fashion stylist—ditched his signature look, debuting a dark brown ‘do in a drastic hair transformation.
“Don’t freak out—I know my hair is dark,” Tan began in an April 29 Instagram video. “I know it’s very weird to see me with dark hair. It’s weird to see myself with dark hair.”
He went on to explain that hair change was “for a role,” though he did not specify the project.
“I wasn’t going to share this at all, but I’ve been out twice in the last couple days, and people are very confused,” continued Tan, who guest-starred as gang leader Zubair on Deli Boys last year. “So, I just need to make it clear: This is not a midlife crisis.”
The 43-year-old also assured fans that he has not permanently said goodbye to his salt-and-pepper locks, quipping, “I hate dark hair on me.”
“I love my silver hair,” he affirmed. “I love my grays. I’m not ashamed of them whatsoever. I’m really proud of my grays.”
The Next in Fashion host added, “I’m gonna go right back—hopefully—to my natural color in the next month or two.”

But Tan is not the only one finding difficulty in adjusting to his new look, with his Queer Eye costar Antoni Porowski joking in the comments section, “My brain is glitching so hard rn.”
“I know, Ant,” Tan replied. “Mine has been for days now.”
Indeed, his relationship with his gray hair spans decades. As Tan told The Guardian in a 2021 interview, “I’ve been going gray since I was 12.”
“People assume I’m older than I am, which is frustrating,” he shared at the time. “I still feel 21, but when I get out of bed, my knees creak and I think: ‘How am I nearly 40?'”
Since then, Tan has experimented with different hairstyles, though he always kept its coloring. In fact, he ditched his iconic quiff for a more cropped ‘do last year after receiving what he called online hate over the look.
“The response was basically, ‘That hair made you seem like you’re really uptight, but you’re not,’” he told Page Six in January 2025. “I can’t believe that my hair made people think that I was that uptight. I’ve had that same hair for 15 years. It was just easy for me to do.”
