Demi Lovato’s Husband Jutes Shares How They Stay Connected During Time Apart on Tour (Exclusive)
After their tours, Demi Lovato and Jutes wanna get back to each other.
Although the “Sleepyhead” singer (real name Jordan Lutes) is thrilled to be embarking on a European tour in May and a subsequent North America tour in August, he admitted it will be hard to spend his first wedding anniversary away from his wife as she kicks off her own tour later this month.
“It’s one of those things where we get sad when we talk about it,” Jutes admitted in an exclusive E! News interview. “So we’re like, ‘We won’t think about it yet.’ It’s gonna be tough, there’s no way around that.”
The 35-year-old—who tied the knot with Demi last May—shared his hopes that this type of scheduling conflict never occurs again, noting it “really sucks.”
However, he had an otherwise hopeful outlook on ensuring the couple’s distance truly does make their hearts grow fonder.
“We’re just gonna pretend,” Jutes explained. “As soon as tour is over and we’re together, we’re gonna celebrate and that’ll be awesome. It’s part of the job and we’ll just have to FaceTime a ton and figure it out. We’ll get through it.”
Of course, there is plenty for Jutes to look forward to about his upcoming time on the road. The Canadian musician just put out his latest single “Disassociate” March 25, and he’s excited to play it, as well as other music from his last two albums, live when his European tour kicks off May 2. After all, touring is his favorite part of being an artist.
“People coming to the show is by far the most important thing to me,” he said. “Streams and numbers on a screen are cool and metrics are cool to see that things are growing, but nothing is going to replace showing up and a bunch of fans being there singing your songs.”
And in August, he’ll head out again for the North American leg, coined Smile You’re On Tour, which he noted is the “biggest thing” he’s ever done, and that’s all thanks to his fans.
“I tour out of pocket,” Jutes explained. “For the fans out there, when they buy tickets to the tour or buy merch, they are funding directly the next tour. And I do everything out of my own pocket when it comes to touring. For me, every time we get to this next level, I take what we made on the last tour and I’m like, ‘This is what we have to level up this next tour.’”
And while he’ll miss his No. 1 fan Demi as she tours her latest album It’s Not That Deep across the U.S. over the next month, he emphasized that they continue to be each other’s biggest supporters.

“She believes in me more than I believe in myself,” he shared. “Beyond me being in love with her, [she] is one of the most talented human beings on planet Earth. So when someone that talented believes in you, it feels good and it fuels you.”
As he put it, “We love to see each other win—seeing her win makes me feel better than seeing myself win.”
Jutes assured that the feeling is mutual for Demi, who he said he falls “more and more in love” with every day nearly a year into their marriage.
“You hear all these stories like, ‘Marriage is tough,’” Jutes detailed. “And ‘You’re gonna fight and that’s just part of marriage.’ And I’m like, not for me. I keep getting surprised by like, ‘Is that supposed to be happening? Should we pretend to fight or something?’”
While Jutes’ summer calendar is full with touring, he has one thing permanently on his docket, adding, “I’m looking forward to falling more in love and hanging out with my best friend all the time.”
