Sydney Sweeney Reflects on TEARFUL Aftermath of Angus Cloud’s Death
Angus Cloud’s memory will live on forever.
With season three of Euphoria releasing on HBO April 12—nearly three years after the actor died from an accidental overdose at the age of 25 in July 2023—show creator Sam Levinson shared how the series will address Angus’ death.
“I loved Angus very deeply,” Sam told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published April 7, “and I fought very hard to keep him clean while he was here.”
“I couldn’t keep him alive in real life but I could keep his character [Fezco] alive in the show,” the 41-year-old explained. “I kept him alive and the character has got a great arc. I think he’d be very proud of it.”
Sam explained that he had grown close to Angus before his passing, often having him over to talk about season three in effort to help him stay clean.
“I would invite him over and I’d tell him what the plans were for the character,” Sam told The New York Times in an interview published April 8. “I’d say, ‘Look, he’s been in prison for a few years, so you’ve got to get that yoked prison body.’ Because I wanted him to start working out and taking care of himself.”
The character of Fezco was one that meant a lot to the creator, especially because he’d originally planned to have the beloved drug dealer die at the end of season one, and then later at the end of season two. But Sam “just couldn’t do it.”
“I wanted him to have something to hold onto, a tangible goal for the future,” he said. “And then when I heard the news that he had passed away [in July 2023], I was very angry about it, and especially about fentanyl.”

Sam had felt especially protective of Angus—even bringing a sober coach on set to help him—as Sam himself had dealt with addiction in his late teens.
“The reason I’m here today is because someone in my life gave me a second chance,” Sam said. “I wanted to do that same thing for him and for anyone who was struggling with addiction stuff.”

“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor). I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it) I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…”they could light up any room they entered” but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment. My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone.”

“Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter. This is the hardest thing ive ever had to post, and im struggling to find all the words. You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same. This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”

“There was no one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon… He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family.”
