After Shia LaBeouf was arrested on battery charges Feb. 17 during a New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration, he reflected on not being in his “right mind” during the altercation.
Shia LaBeouf Reflects on His “Dirty, Ugly, Disgusting” Behavior Amid Mardi Gras Battery Charges
Shia LaBeouf is opening up about his legal troubles.
The Transformers star shared his perspective on why he was arrested for simple battery—categorized as a misdemeanor offense—following an altercation at a Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans Feb. 17.
“I was drunk, and then I felt infringed upon in terms of my proximity,” Shia told Andrew Callaghan during the Feb. 28 episode of Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan. “But I wasn’t in my right mind, and so it’s on me.”
“I don’t know what was going on in my head, but it don’t matter,” he added. “I mean, the truth is I said words not OK to say. I don’t want to hurt nobody’s feelings. That’s what I mean [when I say] I’m a Catholic. I’m wrong for what I did, is what I’m saying.”
The New Orleans Police Department confirmed that the Disney alum—who has been open about his rocky sobriety journey—was taken into custody just after 12 a.m. local time after two victims were “reportedly assaulted.”
“A man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business,” authorities said in a statement to E! News. “A staff member attempted to eject Mr. LaBeouf from the establishment. Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times.”
Police noted that one of the victims said LaBeouf then left the scene before returning again “acting even more aggressive.”

“Multiple people attempted to hold him down—he was eventually let up in hopes that he would leave—but he reportedly again struck the same victim with closed fists to the victim’s upper body,” authorities continued in a statement. “LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person—punching him in the nose.”
Now, Shia—who shares 3-year-old daughter Isabel with estranged wife Mia Goth—is taking “1000 percent” responsibility for the incident.
“It’s not nice to hurt people, ever,” he said. “And it’s f–king lame. Some people got hurt. I got to deal with that. Imma deal with that in full. I eat it all. It was all me. It’s not on them. It’s on me. I f–ked up.”
Though he described his experience in jail as “crowded,” he also shared his thoughts on his undetermined punishment for the incident.
“I’ll do whatever it is. It was no good. bro,” he said. “My behavior is dirty, ugly, disgusting, so I gotta eat it.”
