Julianne Hough Reveals What She’s Looking for in Future Relationship
Julianne Hough certainly feels alive on the big screen.
Eight years after her last starring film role, the Dancing With the Stars host is ready to make her return to movie acting with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming film The Bride!, a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein and the 1935 film The Bride of Frankenstein. And for Julianne, having the chance to join the cast was a thrill.
“It was amazing,” she shared with Deadline at the film’s London premiere in a video posted to X Feb. 26. “I honestly couldn’t imagine a different project.”
“This was truly iconic in so many ways,” the 37-year-old continued, “and the fact that I got to be a part of Maggie’s vision—this message of feminism through empowerment and rock and roll punk. I just think it’s so incredible, and she’s just such an amazing director.”
Julianne was particularly excited to see the final product on screen, especially because she appears in a movie within The Bride! and “didn’t really participate in the actual film,” adding, “ I’m having a new experience with all of you as well.”
Plus, the Rock of Ages alum had the chance to work with both Maggie and her brother Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays a role in the project as well.
“Jake is amazing, and just such a professional,” Julianne said. “He’s obviously been doing this forever, and just the humility and excitement that he had to come into the studio and we worked together, and it was so much fun.”

And Maggie was similarly honored to have Jake—as well as her husband Peter Sarsgaard—act in the movie, especially as it was the first time she and her sibling worked together since 2001’s Donnie Darko.
“I love working with both of them,” Maggie shared with Entertainment Weekly in December, “and Jake was almost like icing on the cake.”
“He came in, and we fit him in when he was available, and he wore this great tuxedo,” she added. “He danced, and he sang. He was so funny, so generous, so loving, and such a pleasure to have on set.”

Plus, having Peter—with whom she shares two daugthers—on set while making “a huge movie with such a massive scope” was “such a gift” to her.
“These are really brilliant actors,” Maggie said. “It’s a total gift to have them.”
