Hollywood is mourning a sudden loss.

Actress Wenne Alton Davis—best known for playing roles on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Girls5eva and New Amsterdamdied after being hit by a car in New York City Dec. 8, police and her agent confirmed to The New York Times. She was 60.

Police told the outlet Davis was hit by an S.U.V. that was traveling on West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan and made a left turn on Broadway where the vehicle struck a pedestrian. Davis was transferred to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

E! News has reached out to authorities and a rep for Davis but hasn’t heard back.

Davis’ manager Jamie Harris told the NYT that the actress was originally born as Wendy Davis in North Carolina on Oct. 18, 1965, but chose to use the name Wenne Alton Davis for her acting roles. She moved to New York in her late 20s to work as a stand up comedian before she turned to acting. She also worked security at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

“She had a huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at J.F.K.,” Harris shared in a statement, “and, most of all, her family and her circle of friends (which was also huge).”

That circle of friends included her next door neighbor Edward Reynoso, who recalled a tender moment the two shared shortly before her passing when she told him, “I love you, I appreciate you.”

“It was so weird to me, because I felt like she was saying goodbye,” the 61-year-old told the New York Daily News in an interview published Dec. 10. “Now that this happened, it all seems so odd to me.”

According to Reynoso, Davis would always text him when she was about to leave or come home, and he was concerned when he didn’t receive a message from her the evening of Dec. 8.

“I found it weird,” he said. “I was worried. I was texting her and she didn’t respond. I’m numb to tell you the truth. I can’t believe it.”

In addition to her acting work—who portrayed a cop on Maisel in 2023—Davis often posted on Instagram about her love of boxing as well as how much she enjoyed spending time with her cat Roxie.
