Teyana Taylor Shares Advice She Got From Leonardo DiCaprio Following Golden Globe Nomination
Michael B. Jordan is boarding the train to awards season.
Two days after receiving his first-ever Golden Globes nomination for his double performance as identical twins Smoke and Stack in the movie Sinners, the Black Panther actor shared he “feels great” about the recognition, but admitted he’s trying “not to think about it” too much.
“Honestly, just the fact that the movie is still top of conversation,” Michael told E! News in an exclusive interview at the Critics Choice Association’s 8th annual Celebration of Black Cinema and Television in Los Angeles Dec. 9. “It came out so early in the year, and people are still excited about it, still going back to the theaters and seeing it and acting as if it’s the first time that they’re seeing it.”
The 38-year-old added, “It feels great. It feels good, you know. So, just taking it a day at a time.”
In addition to his appreciation for being nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama—alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jeremy Allen White, Oscar Isaac, Joel Edgerton and Wagner Moura—Michael has praised Sinners’ writer and director Ryan Coogler, who earned nominations for screenwriting and directing.
“We are only here because of the brilliance and relentless fearlessness of Ryan Coogler,” Michael shared in a Dec. 8 statement to E! News following the nominations. “A decade after we first started working together, Coogler once again pushed us to unlock another level together.”
For his part, Ryan is also feeling immense appreciation as he heads into awards season, telling E! at the Dec. 9 event that “gratitude is the reaction” to critics and audiences embracing Sinners.

“I’m just thankful, man,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of experience in the business in my 13 years of doing it professionally, but this moment is right there at the top.”
Ryan added, “It’s so special and so rewarding just to know that people enjoyed the movie, that’s the biggest thing. Whether they’re a critic or audience member, whether they’re Black or something else, the fact that they enjoyed the movie, that they saw themselves in it and they were thinking about it at the end of the year, that means everything.”
Beyond Michael and Ryan’s reactions to their Golden Globes nominations, stars like Teyana Taylor and Emma Stone were grateful to be recognized. Read on to see how they, and many others, responded to their nominations.

“Feeling so deeply grateful today for my Smashing Machine family. Thank you to the Golden Globes for this inspiring recognition and celebration of the experience that we all had making the film.
And wow my FIRST Golden Globe nomination – it’s humbling and surreal all at once! My absolute honor to be included with such a tremendous cadre of artists whose extraordinary performances all have raised the standard.
Getting the opportunity to live in the skin of Mark Kerr was the most life changing and beautiful experience of my career – and my gratitude runs deep to Mark for trusting me with his story and ultimately, trusting me with his life. Celebrating my brother and our fearlessly empathetic director, the brilliant and hungry Benny Safdie – and I count my lucky stars to have the greatest scene partner of all time, Emily Blunt, whose RAW, heart wrenching, and lived in performance as Dawn Staples, moves us all to aching tears. Still in awe of the transformative, prosthetic make-up work of the great, Kazu Hiro and all of the crew who truly became a family and left it all on the screen. This was the unlocking experience of a lifetime and I’m so, so deeply grateful. Mahalo nui loa.”

“I am incredibly moved to be recognized by the Golden Globes today for my work as “Aunt Gladys” in Zach Cregger’s film WEAPONS, and for also recognizing the film in the Box Office & Cinematic Achievement category. To receive this recognition is a true testament to Zach’s original vision, and the work of a truly remarkable filmmaking team, including Leo Satkovich, Jason Collins, and Melizah Wheat who helped bring the look of “Gladys” to life, along with our costume designer Trish Summerville.
This was a team effort, and I couldn’t have done it without them. The last few months have been overwhelming seeing audiences, critics and press alike respond to the film in such a positive way. Seeing everyone dressed up as “Gladys” has been a blast! I’d love to give a shout out to all the other women in this category – Emily, Elle, Ariana, Inga and Teyana. They truly represent what women in film are all about.”

“Thank you, Golden Globes, and congrats to my SINNERS family! This was by far my most challenging and rewarding performance— bringing to life (and death) two distinct brothers in SINNERS.
