SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Voters in San Diego and across California are deciding in Tuesday’s special election if the state should temporarily redraw its Congressional district maps.

Proposition 50 would change congressional district maps in California from 2026 to 2030, which could lead to Democrats gaining up to five House seats. The measure was heavily pushed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in response to Texas’s redistricting changes made this year.

If passed, California’s new maps would bypass the California Citizens Redistricting Commission until the 2030 U.S. Census.

A “no” vote on the measure would keep the current congressional district maps drawn by the commission.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 4. The results below will show how San Diegans voted as results are published by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

Voters have until 8 p.m. on November 4 to turn in their mail ballot at a drop box or vote in-person at the polls or the county Registrar of Voters office. Ballots can also be mailed, as long as they are postmarked by Tuesday and received by November 12.

The map below shows how California counties voted on Prop 50.

On the day of the special election, residents of District 2 in Poway are voting in a recall election to determine if their representative, Tony Blain, will be removed from his seat.
