Vegetation fire reaches nearly 70 acres in Shelter Valley

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Crews responded to a vegetation fire burning near State Route 2 and Highway 78 in the Shelter Valley area on Sunday afternoon, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

The blaze, dubbed the “Scissors Fire,” was first reported at around 2:30 p.m. and initially burned about two acres of brush at a moderate rate of spread. As of the latest update from Cal Fire, the fire had grown to 68 acres with 10% containment.

Firefighters were able to stop the forward rate of spread by 5 p.m., Cal Fire said.

Additional resources were requested to assist crews already on scene.

Cal Fire said there are no structures threatened or evacuations at this time.
