SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two fishermen were hurt Thursday after a crane used to pull up heavy fish fell onto a boat in the harbor on Shelter Island.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. at the Marlin Club, located at 2445 Shelter Island Drive, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Authorities say an old steel crane that might have rusted out, gave way and landed on a fishing boat.

The crane and some entangled wires trapped the individuals, but they were able to escape and swim to the dock thanks to the help of bystanders, witnesses told first responders.

The two fishermen were taken to the hospital where one has minor injuries and the other has moderate injuries, per SDFD.

No other details were released about the incident.
