Dezeen Showroom: Australian brand Design By Them worked with industrial designer Angus Easthope on a duo of chairs that are characterised by having “a balance of structure and softness”.
The Swage seating collection is named after the process of swaging in metal forging, which manifests in its tapered stainless steel frame.
The hard materiality of the metal, which comes in various metallic and powder coated finishes, is contrasted by a soft backrest and circular seat.
“The Swage chair explores the metal swaging process through its tapered frame,” said designer Angus Easthope. “The technique is paired with upholstery to create a functional balance between a rigid structure and soft seating.”
“Swage marries a modern metal form with traditional wood-turning techniques,” said Design By Them. “A balance of structure and softness, the new seating collection is designed for longevity and comfort.”
The chairs come in two heights – one for dining and one taller for use against counters – and multiple colours for the frame as well as upholstery options for the seat and backrest.
The collection was launched during the 2025 edition of 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, and is now available for purchase.
